In 2010, Children in Distress Foundation continued its tradition started over ten years ago: “Shoebox Campaign”.

Saint Laurence Youth Centre from Cernavoda

The Centre was opened in 1992 in Cernavoda city, due to the fact that in the post-revolutionary period the largest HIV/AIDS infested children were found in Constanta County. Initially, the Centre served as a pediatric hospital dedicated to children found at the beginning of HIV/AIDS disease or in the terminal phase of the disease. Subsequently, accommodation spaces were built for British volunteers, who came to support and offer professional training to the Romanian personnel.

Saint Christopher's Centre for Children – Curtea de Arges City

Due to the fact that education has a primary role in a child’s normal development in 2003 the Saint Christopher’s Centre was founded for children and their troubled families, a settlement which promotes access to education for children in distress.

The Centre was founded through the aid of a pilot project suggestively entitled „They are our children too – a better life for autistic children” developed in 2002 with the help of the European Union and the National League of Associations for Persons with Mental Handicap and their Families from Romania.

The unwinding of the project offered undisputed chances of recovery for children and sustained the implementation of a new centre, which gradually became one of the most important ones in Romania regarding this field of activity.

Saint Nicholas Development and Recovery Centre for Children

The Centre is found near Saint Margaret’s hospice and was established in order to offer specialized services for children with a deficit in general development, with disabilities, with neurological and motility syndromes, language and talk adjustment syndromes, intellectual disabilities, genetic syndromes and orthopedic and muscular disabilities.

The team of specialists is made up of: kinetotherapists, speech therapists, psychologists and educational/cognitive-behavioural therapists. 

Bucharest Services Complex for Children

The Centre received its license (opening permit) from National Authority for Child Protection becoming one of the best child care services centre from Romania.
The Services Complex for Children was opened in 1999 and includes the following centres:

Saint Andrew’s Children Centre from Pitesti

Saint Andrew’s Children Centre from Pitesti – partnership with Arges County Council. The Centre was opened in 2003 by Lord Hope of Thorns, KCVO His Grace Archbishop Hope, being built and developed on the ruins of a Special School for Deaf children. The Centre’s mission is to offer quality to children’s lives, much needed help and a dignified and full of love experience. Although death may not be always surpassed, the team of specialists together with volunteers from Great Britain succeeded in changing destinies and giving a new meaning for each saved life.
