About our soul and emotional intelligence
To understand yourself is to understand others and to accept them as they are. Because everyone is different. To learn to accept and to support one another is the first step towards a better world. It’s what we call emotional intelligence and the Assistance and Support Centre for the Rehabilitation of Children with Psychosocial Problems team members recently learned about it. Two dear and esteemed guests, Jane Carlin and Kathleen Menmuir were their mentors and Foundation’s friends and supporters who shared with them some of their vast professional experience. Our mentors explained to us that learning is done both with the mind and the soul, especially when life puts you face to face with special children like the ones who are with us at the Foundation. For two weeks, the two guests developed various activities with the children aimed at helping them get to know themselves and each other better. Moreover, they presented to our staff new working methods and approaches in dealing with the children.
On May 20, Kane and Kathleen organized the “Developing emotional intelligence in children. Theory and practice” workshop in which they got our Centre’s team familiarized with the emotional intelligence concept. They clarified the differences between emotional intelligence and literary intelligence and presented various methods and strategies that facilitate the development of emotional intelligence in children starting from primary classes. Aside from the theoretical aspects, our two specialists got everyone in attendance involved in practical activities which helped them learn better and enjoy while doing it. The participants, whether volunteers of the Foundation, teachers from No.62 Secondary School or specialists from the Municipal Educational Resources and Assistance Centre, enjoyed taking home new information and methods that they can implement in their day-to-day work. Jane and Kathleen assured us that they would love to share even more of their professional experience during future events.
